| 21 May 1881 There is a report of a previous offence in the Staffordshire Sentinel and Commercial and General Advertiser Saturday 21 May 1881 p.2 col.3: THEFT BY BOYS - Three very boys, named Harvey Burton. Edward Burton, and Thomas Thorpe, were charged with stealing a quantity of wearing apparel, the property of Arthur Thorpe, the father of one of the boys. The youngsters it seems endeavoured to pledge several articles which had been extracted from a box at Thorpe's home, but the pawnbroker, Mr. Jones, being suspicious, communicated with the police. - The young delinquents were each ordered receive a dose of birch. | |
