6 January 1855 There is a very brief mention of the crime that sent him to Saltley in the Birmingham Journal Saturday 6 January 1855 p.7 col.1: William Beech, for stealing, at Birmingham, a purse and 10s. 4½d., the property of James Long; sent to the Reformatory School for three years.
 
3 June 1857 The Reformatory Minute Book records: As to Minute 442, the Visitors have sanctioned the sending out of the boys William Beech and James Hill [boy 89], who have gone to Australia.
