| 5 August 1899 The crime that sent him to Saltley was reported in the Coleshill Chronicle Saturday 5 August 1899 p.5 col.6: A YOUTHFUL HORSE-STEALER. - At Solihull, on Tuesday, a boy aged 12, named Sydney Holloway, was charged with stealing two ponies, belonging to Thomas Haynes, 92, Upper Highgate-street, between the 19th and the 21st of May, and Richard Haynes, 1, Trinity-street, Birmingham, on the 18th of July. in connection with the robberies a man named Mark Thomas Ashfield has been committed for trial at the Warwick Quarter Sessions. For the first-named theft prisoner was ordered to receive two strokes with the birch rod, and was ordered in the second case to be detained in a reformatory for five years. | |
