28 February 1896 A previous offence was reported in the Birmingham Mail Friday 28 February 1896 p.2 col.3: BOY BURGLARS IN BIRMINGHAM. At Birmingham Police Court today, before Messrs. W. N. Fisher and F. Wright, George Gould (13), Hospital Street; John Haven (12), 9, Wheeler Street; Wm. Chandler (13), Hospital Street; and John George Busst (15), filer, Lower Tower Street, were charged with breaking into the dwelling-house of Edward Parker, of 17, Miller Street, on the 25th inst., and stealing a silver watch and chain, and four rings, valued at £10; with breaking into the house of Lucy Harper, 57, Elkington Street, on February 24, and stealing a pair of boots, two silver thimbles, and a gold ring, valued at 25s. Prisoners were arrested by Detectives Bristol! end Davis, and admitted having committed the burglaries. Gould said that he had sold one of the rings to a man for £7., but this was not found to be true. - Sergeant Bristol! asked for a remand to enable the stolen articles to be recovered. - The Bench granted a remand for a week.
   
1 April 1896 The crime that sent him to Saltley was reported briefly in the Birmingham Mail Wednesday 1 April 1896 p.2 col.4: At Rugeley yesterday. Albert Reeves, George Gould, John Haven, and John Busst hailing from Birmingham, were charged with breaking into a dwelling house at Longden and stealing £3. and a silver watch, the property of Henry Warner, and 2s. 5d. and a silk handkerchief, the property of Charles Clarke, A police-constable chased prisoners on his bicycle. Gould put the three sovereigns in his stocking. Prisoners admitted the offence, Reeves endeavouring to lay the blame upon the others. - They were all committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions.
