| 7 March 1896 The crime that sent him to Saltley was reported in the Worcester Journal Saturday 7 March 1896 p.7 col.5: EVESHAM YOUTHS IN TROUBLE. - James Saunders (18), labourer. Vine-street. Evesham, Herbert Sayer Johnson (15), labourer, Boat-lane, Evesham, were charged with stealing two bundles of twigs, value 3s. (from a field at Chadbury), belonging to George Baylis, market gardener, Littleworth-street, Evesham, on February 20th. Prisoners were further charged with stealing another two bundles, also belonging to Mr. Baylis on February 25th. Saunders was sentenced to one month's hard labour, and the Bench decided to send Johnson to a reformatory school for three years. | |
