| 6 April 1895 The crime that sent him to Saltley was reported in the Staffordshire Advertiser 6 April 1895 p.7 col.3: BOYS IN TROUBLE. - Alexander James Barton, aged 13. George-street, Sandford Hill, was charged with stealing a sovereign from the shop of William Mitchell, grocer. Anchor-road, and Edward Tolley, aged 13, George-street, was charged with receiving 15s. 7½d. from Barton, knowing it to have been stolen. Tolley was bound over under the First Offenders Act, and Barton, who had been previously convicted, was ordered to be sent to a reformatory for three years. | |
