| 16 May 1891 A previous offence was reported in the Birmingham Daily Post Saturday 16 May 1891 p.7 col.3: THEFT BY A BOY. - Charles Cavey (10) [name given thus], Wattville Street, was charged with stealing an overcoat, the property of Joseph Parsons. - The prisoner and prosecutor both attend the Boulton Road Schools, and on the 8th inst. the coat was taken from an ante-room at the school. The coat was traced to the prisoner, who was found wearing it. - He pleaded guilty, and was ordered to receive six strokes with the birch rod. | |
| 20 June 1891 The crime was reported in the Birmingham Daily Post Saturday 20 June 1891 p.9 col.6: A YOUNG THIEF. - Charles Caney (10), 23, Cross Street, was charged with stealing a horse and trap, value £20, the property of Mr. Morris, Rolfe Street, Smethwick, on Tuesday. The horse and trap were stabled in Cross Street, Smethwick, and on the morning in question prisoner went to the stable and told Mr. Tait, who had charge of it, that prosecutor wanted the horse and trap. Prisoner went away with the horse and trap. Later in the day he put in an appearance at his uncle's home in Stour Street, Birmingham. - Prisoner's aunt detained him until night, and upon his uncle coming home, he took him back to his father. - On the way there he was met by the brother of prosecutor, and given into custody. - Prisoner received a bad character, and was sent to prison for twenty-one days, and. ordered to he detained for five years in a reformatory. | |
