18 December 1886 A previous offence was briefly reported in the Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, and County Express Saturday 18 December 1886 p.3 col.6: William Davies (13), Bank Street, Brierley Hill, was ordered to receive twelve strokes with the birch rod on a charge of stealing 2s. 6d., the money of William Alfred Johnson, general dealer, Broad Street, Bilston.
   
9 June 1888 There is a report of the crime in the Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, and County Express Saturday 9 June 1888 p.6 col.6: THEFT FROM A RAG AND BONE CART. - Thomas Rubery (15), Round Oak, and William Davies (14), Bank Street, were charged with stealing two pairs of boots, the property of Joseph Brownhill, rag and bone dealer, Dudley. - Complainant said he left his cart in Chapel Street while he visited some houses, and missed the boots when he returned. - William Cole said he saw the prisoners take the boots off the cart. - Felix Brown, shoemaker, Bank Street, said the prisoner Davies took a pair of boots to his house on the day in question, saying he had had them given to him. - Rubery was fined 10s., or seven days, and Davies was sent to prison for twenty one days, and afterwards to a reformatory until he is sixteen.
