Sidney died of Double Pneumonia at the Red Cross Hospital in Stratford-on-Avon on 2nd May 1915.

Sidney was not awarded the Victory medal which means that it is most likely he did not serve abroad in WW1. He would have been in Stratford because the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment moved to Stratford-upon-Avon to join the 88th Brigade, 29th Division on February 13, 1915 and from there the Battalion moved off to Gallipoli and it appears that he was taken ill before the Battalion went to Gallipoli.
Sidney had served in South Africa prior to WW1.His service number suggests that he originally enlisted between 29th July 1907 and 4th February 1908.
