Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
Between the 11th and 13th April 1918 the 4th Battalion and the rest of 4th Guards Brigade were ordered to hold an extended 2.5 mile front line near Vieux Berquin and to prevent the attacking German units from reaching Hazebrouck at all costs. The enemy launched numerous attacks on the lines but ultimately failed to capture Hazebrouck, however it came at great cost with the battalion suffering over 500 casualties including Frank.
