16 September 1865 There is a report of the crime in the Staffordshire Advertiser Saturday 16 September 1865 p.6 col.6: JUVENILE HOUSEBREAKERS. - James Bell and Thomas Poole were charged with having broken and entered the dwelling-house of William Daniels, of Talk Pits, in the parish of Audley, and stolen therefrom a pair of stockings, a muffler, a bunch of keys, and a small box. Bell pleaded guilty. Mr John Rose said that Bell had been before the magistrates before, and had been ordered to be sent to a reformatory. He was committed to prison, but, owing to some informality, he was not then sent. He was still only 15 years of age. The magistrates committed him to prison for 21 days, and directed that he should be sent to a reformatory for four years. There was another charge against Poole, and he was handed over to the Cheshire officers.
 
17 August 1866 Absconded with 331 [Samuel Price]. Brought back by County Police early next morning
