Oscar is listed in two military records as having died of wounds incurred in action on 22 Aug 1917. It appears from the war diary that he was the one "other rank" wounded on the 21 Aug 1917 during training at Area 1 at Brandhoek, Ypres. The battalion war diaries for 21st & 22nd are transcribed below.

15 officers and 10 Platoon Sgts proceeded to demonstration in attacking Strong Points at place 10 miles NW of St. Omer.
2 Coys fired on 25 yard range and 3 Coys bathed at Corps Baths, Poperinghe.
All Company's taken over model constructed under Battn arrangements of German Lines - objectives in next attack.
